This is a level design project where I wanted to design a level based on the feel of grandeur one gets while watching Toy Story or playing games like Revolt. Small things in a human-sized environment. The player is a toy that has to collect 10 batteries in a room full of enemy toys and escape.


Some things I focused on in the level:

Made an environment that is easy to identify and relate to the real world. This familiarity made it easier to deliver the feeling of grandeur I was looking for.

Designing encounters around the core objective of resource collection

The batteries are placed in strategic places in such a way that once you get a battery, you end up in a vantage point that allows you to see more batteries and enemies. This was especially important as I didn't want to include a minimap to keep the UI minimal but I wanted to subtly guide the player throughout the map.

I used a specific color theme for the batteries and the important parts of the environment to make sure the player doesn't get lost and can find all the batteries.

The player has some opportunities to tackle the same encounter from different vantage points, some of them make the encounter easier.
