My Excel Shennanigans
Before coming to the University of Utah for my Master's degree, I wanted to have a clear picture of my financial situation. Specifically, I wanted to know how long it might take me to pay off my student loans.
Hence, I made an Excel sheet which considers all the relevant variables and calculates how long it will take to repay the loan.
One can change the values of the variables and quickly assess the resulting effects on repayment.

Variables considered:
-
Cost of living (during and after completing the course)
-
Interest rate of the loan
-
Course tuition (with and without the tuition benefit)
-
Earnings if I get a teaching assistantship or research assistantship
-
Earnings if I get a campus job
-
Income tax
This sheet is not perfect and doesn't consider some expenses, but it gave me a solid idea of what my finances will look like and the timeline of repayment.
